Lets give credit where credit is due. Nick Foles is no second-string player… At least, not for now.
With Michael Vick on the mend and aiming to make a return to the starting line-up, Foles is making the most of his opportunities. Foles performance against the Bucs on Oct. 13th proved that his half showing against the Giants was no fluke. In many ways, he proved that he could be capable of a lot more than anticipated. With Revis and a re-vamped secondary this year, the Bucs could have easily proved to be a formidable opponent. Revis was surely to going to knock Desean Jackson off his game and Foles would have to use Cooper and company (who wasn’t showing up) to make up for his production. I guess there were some miscalculations going on there but Jackson must have known all along according to his prediction.
So now, as opposed to questioning whether or not Vick’s hamstring is intact, the question now becomes whether Vick is still the starter?
Hold your horses.
To allow Foles to win the starting job at QB against two WIN-LESS and struggling teams is not fair to Michael Vick. Foles, without question, displayed some throwing abilities that we haven’t seen Vick show quite yet but everyone knew that Foles was a better pocket passer than Vick to begin with. Foles knows what it takes to lead receivers and stand tall in the pocket. He also proved he isn’t immobile on his 1 rushing TD. However, Foles doesn’t have to the ability to take off up the middle of a defense for 61 yards. Vick’s ability to run the read-option is a huge asset when you have the league’s leading rusher in on the fake. The Eagles haven’t had a RB as feared as Shady since Brian Westbrook in the 2007 season (Lets not go back further than that). Vick paired with Shady is just simply scary for opposing defenses, especially with Desean Jackson running high posts and go-routes every drive on the play-action. Vick may not be as great a passer as Foles from the pocket, but he is certainly using his full arsenal of weapons as a play-maker. Foles will have to prove that he can be more productive than Vicks arm AND his legs. That is no easy task, especially, when the teams that actually know how to win are now coming up.
