Imagine you’re sitting in an NHL arena cheering on your favorite team. The team’s star forward splits the oppositions’ defensive pairing, heads in on the goalie, then goes top shelf to give his team a lead on the scoreboard. The red lights flash, the fans jump to their feet, the goal horn blares and jubilant music is blasted in celebration. Goal horns and goal songs have become iconic representations of some of the league’s teams. Unfortunately the Lightning is not one of them. The Bolts need a new goal song and with your help we can come up with some good candidates.
What’s wrong with Tampa’s goal song? It’s a decent enough song, but there’s nothing particularly memorable about it. For example: before starting research on this topic no one knew the name or group that did it. Here is the current goal song for reference purposes:

Surely we can do better than this. Let’s take advantage of the off-season and put our collective minds together and come up with some other musical options for the Lightning’s celebrations.
The easiest answer may be a song that’s been in front of us the whole time. It plays before every home game when the “Dream Kid” of the game takes to the ice to pump up the crowd. It used to be accompanied by flashes of light and a smoky cloud under the scoreboard back in the day. For your consideration AC/DC’s Thunderstruck:
That song is a classic for a reason. Maybe AC/DC skews a little old for the demographic the Bolts are trying to capture. We believe AC/DC is timeless, but go with us on this one. Maybe they are looking for something with a more modern beat that will get people out of their seats. Cue Lil’ John:

There are very few lyrics, yes. But darn it, it’s a catchy tune. Our next submission came from our Twitter friend StrikeHere . He suggested “City Electric” by Anberlin:
This song works surprisingly well, especially with the chorus. A subtle nod to lightning with the electricity references. Also? The band is from Florida which is awesome.
The final suggestion we’ll put forth comes from the Dropkick Murphys. It’s easy to see 20,000 people at the Forum clapping and chanting along after their boys have scored another goal. Also, bagpipes:
There are a ton of great songs that could work as goal songs. These are just a few of the ones we came up with. What would you pick as the Lightning’s new celebratory anthem? Let us know in the comment section below or on our Facebook Page and Twitter Page.
