Forget Oswalt For Now, Let’s Fix The Tigers’ Lineup

Rumors that the Tigers might be in the Roy Oswalt trade sweepstakes are swirling like something Bill Paxton would chase, and it’s fair given the Tigers’ rotation problems through May.  However, with the re-programming of Max Scherzer and JV, Bondo, and Porcello starting to pick up their jocks, the Tigers would be better off fixing the holes they have in the lineup — catcher, shortstop, and possibly even third base.  Friend of the blog, Paul Sporer, thinks that Stephen Drew from the Diamondbacks would be a viable solution at shortstop.

If the Tigers decide to go after a pitcher at the deadline after all, they’d probably be best served going after a LHP considering they just DFA’d their only one.  That’s where the Cliff Lee talk comes in, but the last time Detroit traded for a LHP from the Mariners at the deadline, it didn’t pan out too great.  Personally, I say sell the farm for Hanley Ramirez or go after catcher Ryan Doumit of the Pirates (although his 9% rate at cutting down runners this season leaves a whole lot to be desired).
