I was listening to WGR today and the topic, which seems to be the same one they’ve been running since week 3, was regarding how the Bills needed to lose out in order to get a high pick. I’ve made my stance perfectly clear about how silly and stupid the topic had become. What makes the topic even more annoying, is how the afternoon hosts refuse to acknowledge any other option. God forbid you mention Cam Newton or Ryan Mallet. If you do, the hosts will scoff at the notion and declare that they don’t care to talk about it. Yes, thanks for all the research you guys do. Not to mention, for me to take their advice serious about the QB prospects in the draft is pretty tough, considering that these are the same hosts who didn’t bother doing a draft recap last year, in order to draft food or was it sports anchors? So, I’m not taking their advice seriously on any of the QBs in college. Bottom line: Their tunnel vision about what the Bills should do in the draft is about as narrow minded as a mouse hole.
What I’ve been trying to tell everyone about the QB position is that Ryan Fitzpatrick gives the Bills options. If they draft 7th and their draft board tells them that Mallet is a franchise QB, you draft him. If the Draft Board (Yes, I’m pretending it’s human) doesn’t like the QBs in that spot, then draft a defensive player. Again, the Bills have so many holes, that they don’t have to fill their QB spot so quickly. Wait till 2012. As I’ve been saying, don’t pull a JP Losman by reaching for a QB in order to find a passer.
I’ll admit, now that we are only four weeks away from the conclusion of the season, I’m starting to look at how the other bottom feeder teams are performing. Now, if you think I’m changing my stance, I’m not. You want to know why? Because if the Bills run the table, and I know that’s a slim chance, it would be more beneficial than getting a high draft pick. Yes, call me crazy, call me a loser, call me a dreamer, call me a tool, but I’m going in that direction. Can you picture what it would be like if the Bills beat the Jets and Patriots? If that happens, sign me up for the 9th pick.
I’ve been saying that this year is all about progress and if the Bills somehow beat the best of AFC, that’s a pretty nice way to end the season. To finally end the stupid Patriots streak of kicking our asses would be so sweet. To have Rex Ryan cry to the press about the loss would make me stick out my chest a little more in the Big Apple. That’s my dream scenario, and if I wake up from that dream? Hey, we’ll have a top 5 pick 🙂
