2019 is off to a hot start, with the announcement of All Elite Wrestling reportedly sending rival promotions into “signing mode”, as companies continue to battle over un-signed talents, and attempt to lock down current talents to new, multi-year deals.

We recently reported that certain WWE talents are reportedly keeping a close eye on AEW, as it could provide new opportunities to WWE stars who feel creatively frustrated in the company and/or underutilized.

It appears as if WWE, and specifically NXT, might have landed itself a new talent in former Impact Wrestling star Tanea Brooks, fka Rebel. Brooks recently Tweeted, “About last night…….. When one door closes, another one opens,” indicating she might have signed a deal with WWE.

Brooks worked the last set of NXT TV tapings at Full Sail University in Orlando, however, it remains unknown if the content she taped will air on NXT TV on WWE Network.

Brooks began her career in Impact Wrestling back in 2013, and was with the company until her departure in 2016. During that time, she was also working with Ohio Valley Wrestling, and left that promotion back in 2017.

Brooks returned to Impact Wrestling in March of 2017, and competed in a number one contender’s gauntlet match which she lost. Brooks subsequently made one-off appearances on Impact Wrestling TV in July of 2017, and then again in June and July of 2018.

In addition to Impact Wrestling and OVW, Brooks has competed for World Wonder Ring Stardom and is a former OVW Women’s Champion, Absolute Intense Wrestling Women’s Champion, and a three-time Impact Pro Wrestling Women’s Champion. In 2017, Pro Wrestling Illustrated ranked Brooks #49 of the best 50 female singles wrestlers in the world.

Outside of pro wrestling, Tanea Brooks appeared as the principle “badonkadonk” girl in the music video for the song “Honkey Tonk Badonkadonk” by Trace Adkins. Brooks has also performed the song with Adkins at the CMT Music Awards.
