With the NBA D-League Draft happening on Saturday, November 1 at 3:30 p.m. EST, more players are declaring themselves for the draft hoping to continue their dream of playing NBA basketball.
The first step to doing that is declaring themselves and then getting selected in the 2014 NBA D-League Draft. That is what former La Salle Explorer guard Tyrone Garland is doing. A few days ago, according to RidiculousUpside.com through a source, Garland has entered the 2014 NBA D-League Draft.
For Garland, this is possibly the jump-start he needs to his pro basketball career. The Philadelphia product from John Bartram High School started off his college career with the Virginia Tech Hokies. At Virginia Tech, Garland spent his first two years there and would play in 38 games. While at Virginia Tech, he would go on to average 3.1 points and 0.6 assists per game.
Garland would then transfer to La Salle University where he would help take the Explorers to new heights immediately. As a junior, Garland would average 13.1 points per game and shoot 42 percent from the field as he would help lead La Salle to the Sweet 16. We will never forget the Southwest Philly Floater that he hit for the game winner against Ole Miss to send the Explorers to Los Angeles.
Finally, last season as a senior without the likes of Ramon Galloway on the team, Garland would average 12.5 points, 2.6 assists and 0.7 steals in 29.5 minutes per game.
It will be interesting to see where Garland goes in the draft as former Explorers have played and been drafted in the D-League. Last season, former La Salle Explorers Earl Pettis and Steve Weingarten were in the D-League. Pettis was drafted in the fifth round by the Santa Cruz Warriors and Weingarten played for the Delaware 87ers and Canton Charge.
