David Samson once served as president of the Marlins, and given the stunt he pulled, he’s one of the least-liked people in the Miami area.
Samson and Jeffrey Loria got a new stadium built in 2012, but their spin job failed to really inform the public that they’d be stuck with the bill. As such, taxpayers are now tasked with paying off $2.4 billion, for a lackluster venue that houses a hapless team devoid of talent.
Loria sold the team for $1.2 billion, and Samson got a decent chunk of that money. So it probably wasn’t a good idea to throw it back in the face of Miami fans, which he did at ESPN radio host Dan LeBatard’s birthday party at Monday night. Samson took the stage, and was met by boos. He responded by saying this:
“I want you to keep booing, because guess what. $1.2 billion….f— you!” Samson yelled, as he flipped off fans.
Here is @DavidPSamson’s entrance at Mas Miami. One of the funniest things I’ve seen in quite some time. pic.twitter.com/19x86I2zYA
