Former Penn State QB Steven Bench Getting Looks From Two Schools

Former Penn State sophomore quarterback Steven Bench is now getting looks from two schools located in the southeast. One school is the University of South Florida and the other school is Mississippi State. This was confirmed by ESPN.com’s Joe Schad and a source close to Bench.

In his article, Schad writes that “Bench is expected to train with quarterbacks coach George Whitfield in California this weekend and possibly take visits to one of those schools the following weekend.” The good thing about this situation is that Steven Bench still has three years of eligibility and a redshirt year left due to the NCAA sanctions that Penn State has. As a freshman last season, Bench appeared in two games and threw eight passes only connecting on two.

In spring practices, Bench was competing with junior college transfer Tyler Ferguson but neither of the quarterbacks separated themselves. With Bench transferring, it seems as if Tyler Ferguson might have a leg up for the job but incoming freshman Christian Hackenberg will be joining the team in the summer. Many people and analysts see the true freshman as the starter for this upcoming season.
