Former Oakland Raider defensive back Phillip Buchannon is slated to visit the Washington Redskins. He is a free agent after being let go by the Detroit Lions.
Phillip Buchannon was originally drafted by the Oakland Raiders in 2002. He missed most of his rookie year with a wrist injury. During his time in Oakland, he never matured into the cornerback or dynamic returner that was expected when he drafted.
He was known for big plays both made and missed. The signature line regarding him was wide receiver Tim Brown, “Phillip giveth and Phillip taketh away.”
The Raiders traded him to the Houston Texans in 2005 for second and third round draft picks. That second round pick was packaged with Doug Jolley for a first round pick that ultimately became Fabian Washington.
After the Texans, Washington played with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Detroit Lions.
