The Providence Journal is reporting that the New England Patriots have sent home former Raiders Randy Moss and Derrick Burgess for being late for an 8 a.m. meeting Wednesday.
In addition to Moss and Burgess, the other players were linebackers Adalius Thomas and Gary Guyton, according to the report. The players were apparently delayed by “weather conditions”, and will not be able to participate in team events Wednesday. All four were absent from Wednesday afternoon’s practice.
Several Patriot players including Tom Brady were questioned in regards to the discipline handed down to those players. Most simply towed to company line while Brady threw a hidden message in there for his tardy teammates:
“That’s coach’s decision”, said Brady. “The guys that are here, I have to do my job, I have plenty of things to do. Like I said, I have to show up every day and bring whatever I have — the energy and leadership that I have to this team. That’s what I owe those guys. That’s what my job is.”
In other words: You guys need to show up and at least attempt to give the kind of energy, leadership and heart to this team that I give because you owe it to them.
Well, considering Moss’ track record; good luck with the Tom. It was all lovely until the Patriots lose two in a row a season after not making the playoffs for the first time since ’02. And with things looking like they are falling apart, we should begin to see the Randy Moss we have come to know throughout his career. Not to mention the same Derrick Burgess who held out for more money every single offseason while with the Raiders despite being out with injury through most of the last two.
Oh and by the way, how did Terdell Sands work out for ya? Or Andrew Walter? LaMont Jordan? Doug Gabriel? For a team obsessed with former Raiders, it doesn’t seem to be panning out all that well for the Pats. But that’s ok, Rob Ryan didn’t work out too well for the Raiders either.
For now though, the Patriots can have Randy Moss and Derrick Burgess. The Raiders are pretty happy with Richard Seymour.
