Former Sox Homer in Sox Loss to A’s

The Sox lost to the Athletics behind one of the worst starts of Dice-K career.  Dice-K only pitched one inning and gave up homers to two former Sox in the process.

Dice-K clearly didn’t have it last night and Bobby Valentine went out to get him in the 2nd inning before he was able to get an out.  Dice-K gave up a solo HR in the first to Josh Reddick and then a 3 run HR in the 2nd to Brandon Moss.  A’s 4-1.  After Dice-K gave up another single and a walk without getting an out, Bobby V saw enough and went to go get him.  Clayton Mortensen was in and that was it for Dice-K.  Reddick got an RBI sac fly to give the As a 5-1 lead.  Mortensen did his job though and pitched some really nice innings to save the Sox bullpen.  Mortensen was a godsend and pitched 5 innings and didn’t give up another run until the 6th inning when Inge hit an RBI sac fly.  Sox 1-6.  Mark Melancon came out and pitched a scoreless 7th and 8th innings to end the game.

Unfortunately the Sox bats were not able to make up for the poor start from Dice-K.  The Sox were only able to score one run in the top of the 1st inning.  The game began with a double from Nava and then an RBI single from Pedey.  The Sox bats weren’t able to get anything else against Parker and when their bullpen took over it was more of the same.  The only player who seemed to have a decent night at the plate was Pedey who went 2 for 4 with an RBI.
