Just five days after the San Antonio Spurs family lost the great Mike Mitchell, we are sad to report that another life has been taken from the Spurs family. Former Spur and seven-time NBA champion Robert Horry lost his 17-year-old daughter Ashlyn Horry to a rare disease seven hours ago reports AOL.SportingNews.com.
Ashlyn Horry, the 17-year-old daughter of former NBA player Robert Horry, died today from “severe respiratory issues and a host of other complications requiring a six month stay in Texas Childrens Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit,” according to a report posted on Black Sports Online.
Ashlyn underwent numerous tests and multiple surgeries, according to the report, and nearly died on several other occasions. She was diagnosed with a chromosome abnormality so rare it did not even have name.
All Spurs fans remember Horry first as a rival when he won with the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Lakers. Horry then became a Spur and cemented himself into the Spurs legacy with his crucial game five three-pointer to help the Spurs defeat the Detroit Pistons in the 2005 NBA Finals. Horry would go on to retire as a Spur.
We here at Project Spurs are very sad to deliver the news, but our thoughts and prayers go out to the Horry family in this tragic time. “Big Shot Bob”, you have ALL of the Spurs family sending you our best wishes to get through this difficult time.
