With the college basketball season getting underway in a month or so, there is still news to report especially out of the City 6. Two former St. Joes Hawks’ players will be professional basketball this season. Forward C.J. Aiken will be playing basketball with the Sacramento Kings as he signed a training camp deal and guard Carl Jones will be playing basketball overseas for WKS Slask Wroclaw of the Tauron Basket Liga.
If you remember Aiken left school after his junior year to pursue a professional basketball career and he did just that by performing well in Summer League. With the Kings’ Summer League team, he played in five games and started in one. He also averaged 4.6 points and 2.6 rebounds in 14.2 minutes per game. His best game in Summer League came on July 13th against the Dallas Mavericks. Even though the Kings lost 76-73, Aiken had 13 points and three rebounds in 20 minutes. Aiken could be a player in Sacramento as they have a new coach in Mike Malone.
In terms of Carl Jones, he was St. Joes’ leading scorer for the past three seasons and as a senior he averaged 14.7 points per game. As he finished his career with the Hawks, he became the third leading scorer in school history with 1,845 points.
