Four Trade Candidates

The Red Sox got off to a hot start to begin the season. Now they are struggling, as they lost five out of their last six games. A lot of fans are already calling for a trade, but the Red Sox are most likely going to wait until it gets close to the trading deadline. If the Red Sox were going to make a trade, here are some names that make sense.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia: Buster Olney reported on WEEI a couple weeks ago that the Sox were losing faith in Salty and were looking for an “upgrade”. With Salty’s play over the last couple of weeks, the Red Sox should be looking for an upgrade. He has not played good, and David Ross has played better than him. Remember, Salty was part of trade rumors in the offseason, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he is playing for another team on August 1st.

Jacoby Ellsbury: Even the Red Sox wouldn’t want to trade him, they will have to consider it if they know he won’t resign here after the season. I would personally deal Ellsbury at the deadline because if you let him sign with another team, you wouldn’t get anything but a draft pick. I would rather get a star pitcher or prospects. Don’t be surprised if the Rangers or Cubs come calling about his availability.

Felix Doubront: He has struggled all year and a change of scenery would probably benefit him. If we were to deal him, Doubront wouldn’t bring back much in return unless you package him with Ellsbury or Salty. Allen Webster is almost major league ready, and dealing Doubront would most likely guarantee Webster is taking his spot.

Stephen Drew:  It wouldn’t be surprising to see Drew dealt, as Iglesias thrived in his time with the big club and it would seem Iglesias is major league ready. A report came out during Spring Training that basically said the Red Sox would consider dealing Drew when the trading deadline arrived. One team that would contact the Sox about Drew is the St. Louis Cardinals. They had interest in Drew in the offseason, but Drew chose the Red Sox over the Cardinals.
