Add another star-studded exhibition contest to this locked-out offseason. Kings forward Francisco Garcia and center DeMarcus Cousins will participate in an exhibition game at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky on August 15th.
Organized by Kentucky Head Coach John Calipari, the game will pit players from the Dominican Republic National Team against alumni from the University of Kentcuky. Calipari announced the contest yesterday via Twitter.
On August 15th, the Dominican National Team will face the Kentucky Pros (8 former Kentucky players currently in the NBA) at Rupp Arena. We’re also inviting every former UK player to be honored at the event. The Kentucky Legends include HOFers, National Champs & World Champs.
Notable NBA players joining Garcia on Team Dominican Republic are Al Horford and Charlie Villanueva . Cousins will reunite with former teammates John Wall and Eric Bledsoe. Team Kentucky will also feature a few alums from the Tubby Smith era – Nazr Mohammed, Tayshaun Prince, Keith Bogans and Rajon Rondo.
Joe B. Hall and Sam Bowie will coach the Kentucky squad while Calipari mans the bench for the Domincan Republic. Calipari was named head coach of the Dominican Republic’s national team in May.
