It is highly debatable that missing Frank Kaminsky is the sole reason why the Wisconsin Badgers lost in shocking fashion to Rutgers on Sunday. However, he would’ve been a huge help considering the cold days for most of the Badgers.
Wisconsin will get him back sooner than later, as the Wisconsin State Journal is reporting Kaminsky has been cleared for practice and will be expected to play as the Nebraska Cornhuskers come to the Kohl Center on Thursday.
Getting the preseason All-American back in the roster will no doubt be a boost to the Badgers after the news earlier this week that Traevon Jackson is out for at least six weeks with a fractured foot. Kaminsky is the leading scorer for the Badgers (16.9 ppg) and is sixth in the Big Ten in scoring this season. He also is second in the Big Ten in rebounding, averaging 8.2 rebounds per game and is top 10 in both field goal percentage and blocked shots on the season.
Kaminsky sat out on Sunday after experiencing concussion-like symptoms following Wisconsin’s win over Purdue last week. The senior center took an inadvertant elbow to the head by Purdue freshman Isaac Haas, and it is believed that that blow is what gave Kaminsky the trouble he had the following day.
Haas was called for a flagrant-1 foul on the play, but Kaminsky didn’t come out of the game at all. He went on to score 21 points to the lead the Badgers to a 62-55 win over the Boilermakers.
Getting Kaminsky back on the heels of the news that Jackson will be gone is undoubtedly good news. Wisconsin will see Bronson Koenig make just his second career start and first start as a true point guard in the Badgers offense, so having a steadying force up front will make his job even easier.
