Free Agency: Who will join the Saints: Part 2 Defense

IMAG0148

So I continue right where I left off from last post. The Defense. Just like the previous post, please leave your thoughts on these guys I suggest and who do you like to see in the Saints uniform. A complete list of FA’s leaving teams can be found here. I have listed the positions below in standard order, not showing the positions on which I think no change is needed. For instance, the DT tackle position looks fine to me, starters and depth wise. There is no reason to target any specific guy in FA there.

DE/OLB: This position is in limbo. It all depends on how Rob Ryan wants to play he defense next year. Depending on that irregardless of players leaving/staying we do need a better rotation at this position. Saints do not have the money to spend big here. Maybe a old guy that wants a chance at a title or that can’t get good money could come in. Osi Umenyiora perhaps (PS though this is a possibility I am mostly trolling you guys here). Maybe John Abraham or Dwight Freeney or even perhaps we see Jonathan Casillas return to the Saints, an OLB that only played in a 4-3 system. He might be a better fit in the system Ryan is gonna run next year.

ILB: Ok I want to hear suggestions. I know all you guys are complaining about how bad this position is. My thoughts are different. Lofton is very good. Hawthorne is also a quality player, Humber is a decent depth guy who will be kept because of this Special Teams contributions… The problem here is not the players, it is the coach. “Promote” Vitt. Vitt is a great guy you need in your organisation, but whenever I played madden, first thing I did was sign the highest ranked LB out there and put scouts on the lookout. Get the top LB coach and overpay him. Keep the players.

CB: Now here is where Loomis needs to do his magic. We have only 1 corner on the roster. The rest needs to be not resigned (Robinson), cut (White since he has gotten a 1 million increase in salary due to a league rule for playing too much snaps), needs time to grow (SJ Baptiste, Dixon). You need an Island out there. We have 1 with Lewis. We need a 2nd guy there. Revis can not be afforded by the Saints, sadly. So who else is out there? My guy here is Antonio Cromartie. He played for Arizona which kinda makes him able to go wherever he wants to go. That means he can ask a lot of money, but that opens up a lot of opportunities. He has played 9 years already and has never even been to a Super Bowl. The contract he signs now is the one last contract for 3 years that will put him on the team that wins a Super Bowl or he won’t ever win one. He has also played 4 seasons for Rex Ryan at the Jets previous to this year in Arizona and he likes him. He might want to play for the other guy that is in the Ryan family. There have been people saying he will return to the Jets because of his connections to Bowles… But really Antonio! You wanna play for “the craphouse that Rex build?”

S: … and he saw it was good. Right? I expect Byrd to be lights out, Vaccaro to be himself again, Bush to be awesome and depth is good too. Or do you guys see this differently?
