Free Agency WR/CB Rundown via @monedula_

capsfanssuck

So Andrew asked who of these top 100 guys his readers wanted on the team. Since this is the off-season I decided to write a post on the guys I wanted.

I am sure about a few things with regard to how I would restock the roster for next year. (Not knowing anything about available rookies)

1 OT in a middle round

2 WR/CB in an early round

3 Sign an WR/CB vet in the offseason.

The cap situation is better than last year and we’ve seen all the things that Loomis can do. There is a place for a big name on the roster. I think the guy they will sign, will sign a 3 year deal, possibly 4. An older player would get less. It would be a guy who would want to win a Super Bowl. A WR would be easy to get because… who does not want to become the favorite target of Drew Brees? If he has been in an NFC Pro Bowl before he has played with Brees.

A CB must be someone who would want to play for Rob Ryan. Maybe a guy who does not like the current mediocre defense he plays in.

Note: Rankings are moving. I am posting the number as they were when I wrote this.

So WR/CB that I would like are:

DEN CB Rodgers-Cromartie
DEN WR Eric Decker.

Denver has a several guys in the top 100, 7 in total. I think they will franchise Rodgers-Cromartie or Decker, possibly, but they are expensive positions to tag. They have a lot of receivers and Decker could be a victim of that. I think Decker is going, but he is young (26) and wants a long term expensive deal. He could be going to the Patriots to compete with Brady for the best looking guy.

So Rodgers-Cromartie at 28 (in April) is someone you could sign to a 4 year deal. 32 is a respectable age to retire for a CB. He will want to go, because… Who wants to be on Denvers defense really!? If he likes Ryan I can see him coming.

NE CB Aqib Talib

Though he is injury prone he is an excellent player, but there is NO WAY the Patrios let him go. That guy alone won them a couple of games (against the Saints).

NYG WR Hakeem Nicks

Would be great to have Akiem Hick and Hakeem Nicks on one team but I think he will ask for more then Decker. He has won a Super Bowl already and will want money, not a chance at a Super Bowl.

Couple of quick lists:

There are a couble of guys on (relatively) bad teams for the past few years that I do not know well or at all, because I seldom see them play.

WRs:

42 PHI Jeremy Maclin

CBs:

6 TEN Alterraun Verner

13 MIA Brent Grimes

17 IND Vontae Davis

30 GB Sam Shields

Then the players on there I do not want:

WR:

27 SEA Golden Tate – An arrogant Seahawk. Oh wait, the word “arrogant” is redundant though he might be the worse.

37 NE Julian Edelman – Highly inconsistent

50 SF Anquan Boldin – Overhyped, no good value for money.

57 PHI Riley Cooper – I liked him in the 2012 season. And then .. well.. You don’t want him on year team since everybody hates him.

67 GB James Jones – He was like 5th on the depth chart? I think he is only good because of Rodgers. Please give me a superstar at a team with a crappy QB.

CBs:

25 CAR Captain Munnerlyn – The Saints already have their captain and that is Lofton.

33 SEA Walter Thurmond – After watching 3 Seahawks games I still do not know of him. Says enough. Also, no L.O.B. S.O.B. on the roster please. L.O.B. + S.B. is too expensive.
