Tennessee GM Mike Reinfeldt declined to enter the high-stakes bidding war for star free agents, waiting instead to get in the hunt for second-tier talent. We’re now starting to see some of the guys Reinfeldt has his eye on.
Former Eagles WR Donte Stallworth, Lions CB Jamar Fletcher, Colts CB Nick Harper and Cowboys MLB Ryan Fowler (RFA) have all visited the Titans.
Bears WR Justin Gage is scheduled to visit Monday.
Rams receiver Kevin Curtis and Rams CB Travis Fisher are also possibilities, as are Dolphins DT Jeff Zgonina and Seahawks DE Grant Wistrom. So is former Titans running back Chris Brown.
I note all would address positions of need for the Titans but looking at a MLB gives some pause for reflection. Peter Sirmon was released as too pricy to backup Stephen Tulloch. Fowler was a backup in Dallas, yet the Titans are interested in him as a potential starter, competing with Tulloch for the job. That doesn’t bode well for Robert Reynolds, another veteran who’s been primarily a backup at MLB and SLB.
I wouldn’t mind getting Stallworth. He’s a big guy with speed who would be a good complement for Brandon Jones. Curtis could replace Bobby Wade in the slot and as a kick returner.
It wouldn’t be bad to get one of the three corners. Any of them.
I know virtually nothing about Fletcher, Fowler, Gage and Zgonina, but will find out about any of them who sign to wear the two-tone blue.
