Freeman not afraid to run

First series against the Green Bay Packers, Josh Freeman ran around the left side and slid just enough to get a first down. Or so he thought. It was short, because Josh Freeman didn’t know that when you slide the ball is placed where the ball ends up, not your feet, and since your sliding feet first, that means the ball is a few feet behind you! It was a simple rookie mistake, but Freeman made sure he learned from it in the future. Josh Freeman doesn’t slide much these days. Against the Browns on Sunday Josh ran around the right end and just kept on going for a huge 33 yard gain. Last year against the Panthers in Carolina, he did the same basic thing, ran right up the gut (Sorry for the plagiarism Gene) and when he got hit pretty hard he got up and pumped his fist!

All you have to do is ask defenses that have faced the likes of a Jeff Garcia or Michael Vick how hard it is to prepare for a QB who can run with the ball. But unlike Vick, Freeman is looking to pass first, then throw. And unlike Garcia, Freeman does not have happy feet that tend to get him to walk right into a sack. Freeman is a pocket passer, who can take off when he needs to, and can cause damage when he does. The other great feature about Freeman is his ability to throw while on the run, especially when rolling around to his left, something most QBs are not as adept at as Josh is. So come Sunday, keep your eyes on #5 and don’t be surprised if you see him take off, and make a first down doing it.
