Ah, Miller Park truly *is* “the good land.”
Sunday’s 6-4 win over the Pirates was “the Prince Show”–no, no, not *that* one…but the Prince Fielder show. Prince Fielder provided starter Ben Sheets with a 1-0 lead in the second on a solo homer, added two more runs in the 4th with yet another home run off of Pirates’ starter Tony Armas, Jr. (Fielder’s 9th of the year), and scored the eventual winning run from second in the bottom of the 8th, needing to slide past catcher Ryan Doumit’s tag attempt.
Ben Sheets did not figure in the decision, and held his own until the 7th, when Chris Duffy tagged Sheets with a 2-run dinger to cut the lead to 4-2; Matt Wise also was charged with a pair of earned runs…after Brian Shouse gave up a pair of hits, Carlos Villanueva came in to get the last out of the 7th, and all three outs in the 8th, to earn his third win of the year and lower his ERA to 2.79. Coco Cordero provided the death blow in the 9th, notching his 12th save of the year.
The Crew now sits at 21-10, reclaiming the best record in baseball…next on tap: a three game homestand against the worst team in the majors, the Washington Nationals…Chris Capuano will get the start tomorrow night, looking for his fifth win of the season. Let’s hope Yost makes sure they don’t look past the Nats.
