It happens nearly every year.
Starting with the official start of the Major League Baseball season (I don’t recognize the games played in Australia) and ending with WrestleMania XXX on Sunday…the first week in April cemented itself as, again, the best week of the year.
And given the close relationship MLB and WWE have (it’s true…look it up), it’s pretty cool that popular independent wrestler Adam “Scrap Iron” Pearce is actually playing on both sides of the proverbial fence.
You see, when the 35-year-old is not working his gimmick in the squared-circle, he’s crossing his fingers, hoping to land a gig as the next public address announcer for the San Diego Padres. Currently, Pearce is a finalist for the job and on Wednesday, actually called some of the Friars contest against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

HOVG: You’re a baseball fan. What team do you cheer for and why?
PEARCE: I’m a converted San Diego Padres fan as I’ve lived in San Diego for 15 years and my kids have been born into Friar-fandom. Before that, I spent my Chicago childhood and formative years in Cubs Hell.
HOVG: Who was your favorite baseball player growing up.
PEARCE: Mark Grace, hands down. I played first base and was Cubs-obsessed so it only made sense to love ole’ number 17.
HOVG: Do you have a favorite baseball-related story?
PEARCE: Get back to me after I (hopefully) win this competition to become the new voice of the Padres.
HOVG: What is a bigger joke…Pete Rose being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame back in 2004 or not being in baseball’s Hall of Fame?
PEARCE: Six of one, half-dozen of the other. Hard to believe either is an actual reality.
HOVG: Wrestling question. What (if anything) has you excited for WrestleMania XXX on Sunday?
PEARCE: The festivities going on in New Orleans more than anything. I’ll be appearing at WrestleCon during the weekend, and it should be good times for all. I’m also very excited for the late Paul Bearer’s enshrinement into the Hall of Fame as he was a dear friend of mine.
HOVG: Any predictions?
PEARCE: Someone will win, someone will lose, someone will complain about it.
