Friday Links – 76ers Fire Eddie Jordan, Justin Abdelkader to Play in Game 2, Browns Interested in #1 Pick, & Phil Jackson Fined for Comments About Kevin Durant

No jokes today, I’m all business.

  • The Philadelphia 76ers fired head coach Eddie Jordan yesterday after just one (bad) season with the team. On Pardon the Interruption, Tony and Mike suggested that Rutgers should extend a coaching contract offer to Jordan. I like the idea; Jordan was an alum, and his Princeton offense would translate much better to the college game.
  • You wanted him… and you got him. Former MSU standout Justin Abdelkader will play in Game 2 tonight against the Phoenix Coyotes. Gator will bring a much-needed physical presence to the Wings’ 4th line, and hopefully a hard elbow to Shane Doan’s face.
  • Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson was fined $35,000 yesterday for the comments he made about NBA scoring champion Kevin Durant on Thursday. Durant responded yesterday, and was blasted by the media for buying into Jackson’s mind games. If Durant is shut down in this series, it won’t be because of this.
  • Apparently the Cleveland Browns are interested in the #1 pick. Browns GM Tom Heckert confirmed that the team was talking to St. Louis about a possible deal to move into the top spot. Odds are the Browns would take a quarterback with the top pick, seeing as they got rid of both Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn this offseason.
  • Brandon Roy will likely miss the playoffs after he has surgery on his torn meniscus. Beyond the Beat looks at who will have to step up for the Blazers in the postseason. Unfortunately, I think this team is too injury-riddled to get too far into the playoffs.
  • Olivia Munn stopped by Hot Clicks to list her top 5 favorite video games of all time. Also: Munn will be in Iron Man 2. I did not know that. Best movie ever?

ROB’S HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY

The NBA released it’s top 10 dunks of the year yesterday. As expected, the list is completely screwed up. Here’s my order (best-to-worst): 2, 8, 3, 1, 10, 4, 7, 5, 6, 9 a.k.a. the obligatory LeBron highlight.
