Friday Links – Granderson the Manderson, Layla, & Boycotting the Browns

Today’s link post will be a bit abbreviated. It’s Halloween weekend, I’m in college, enough said.

Halloween

  • This afternoon, Tigers’ beat writer Jason Beck reported that Curtis Granderson has won this year’s Marvin Miller Man of the Year award. The award is voted on by the players, and goes to the player that demonstrates excellence both on and off the field. It’s nice to see a Tiger get recognized for something this year, even if it wasn’t the division championship fans were hoping for.
  • More injury news out of Motown: Rip Hamilton is questionable for tonight’s home opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder with the ankle injury he suffered in Memphis on Wednesday. [UPDATE: John Mason “reports” that Rip is in street clothes tonight]
  • Unfortunately for football fans everywhere (except maybe Gainesville) Layla Kiffin, wife of Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffin, will not be posing for the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. Too bad. Check out Lane’s “thank God I wore briefs today” smile. [via Deadspin]

  • Make no mistake, the Browns have been God-awful this season and their fans are tired of it. How is it that Browns’ fans are protesting now, but none of the Detroit faithful have ever spoken out against the 50+ year streak of Lions ineptitude? Yeah, there have been a couple of blackouts, but nothing to this magnitude.
  • “Hi, my name is Stan Van Gundy and I am excited to be here.” [via Sharapova’s Thigh]

I can’t really put it better than the fellas at ST: “Van Gundy would rather be at a knitting convention while studying calculus than be introduced at his Orlando Magic’s home opener apparently.” Great stuff. Hopefully SVG was excited with how his team played on Wednesday.
  • Apparently Kissing Suzy Kolber has an insider in the New York Jets locker room. Otherwise I have no idea how they would have heard this conversation between Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez about Sanchez hot-dogging the Raiders on Sunday. Absolutely hysterical stuff from KSK.
Rob’s Highlight of the Day
I guess it’s my fault for starting with such a sick highlight yesterday, but nothing really caught my eye quite like Melo welcoming Paul Millsap to the new season did. There were two fights in the Tampa Bay – Ottawa tilt last night. My highlight of the day is the better of the two: Steve Downie vs. Jarkko Ruutu.
