Greetings Cougs, and a happy Friday to you and yours. As you can see by the pic, the Pac-12 Network is coming, and it’s coming soon! Believe it or not the whole thing kicks on on August 15th, which is, uh, Wednesday of next week!? Where does the time go anyway? I remember back when it was announced that the Pac-12 Network was going to launch, and it was given the mid-August time frame. It felt so far away at the time, but wow, middle of next week we’ll have liftoff! Amazing.
Anyway, before we get to this morning’s links, we wanted to pass on some Pac-12 Network Facebook app information we received earlier this week. Check it out, straight from the network:
Help us showcase the Power of the Pac-12!

On to today’s links!
So the Cougs practiced yesterday, day eight of camp, and it wasn’t all that great per Christian Caple’s latest. Leach basically went off on the offense, having them do 30 up-downs to illustrate his disgust with what he was seeing on the field. Per Leach:
“We didn’t come out ready to play. The last 15 plays we weren’t ready to play, and right now we’re a team that loses our concentration when we get tired and so basically we’ve got to work through that and drill and develop the skill to do that,” Leach said. “Overall, a decent practice, but all of a sudden your number’s called and it’s time to rise up and respond, you better be there ready to do it rather than a bunch of indecision and we’ve just got to do a better job of impressing the point on those guys to be ready to tee it up. We’ve got to be tougher when we’re tired.”
I guess to be somewhat fair, it is nearing those dreaded “dog days” of August. Where it’s hot, your body is tired and sore, the excitement of the start of camp has worn off a bit as you are over a week into it, yet you look up and still realize you have quite a ways to go before it’s over. Not that football players HATE practice or anything(!), but even the best of them can tell you there are days where things just drag a bit. We’ll see how they respond to the first real big lashing from Leach this fall, as tomorrow is just another chance to turn it all around!

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoB26_rTAaU&w=425&h=239] Moving on, Cougfan continues to blast out the Coug stuff from practices. There are not one, but TWO notebook-style articles from yesterday’s action, with one article free while the other is premium. Part I is here, and part II is here. I guess the most troubling thing about Part I is how the injuries are starting to pile up? Among the notable names to be out of action were Dominique Williams and Kristoff Williams from the WR group, while Xavier Cooper and Toni Pole were missing from the D-line.That’s always the rub with fall camp. You want them to bust their butts in the heat and get in tip-top playing shape, and at the same time you find yourself holding your breath in regards to injuries. It’s the same kind of feeling you get when you watch preseason NFL football? Last night for example I saw Michael Vick leave his first preseason game of the year when he injured his throwing hand, while I also saw Tom Brady get absolutely BLASTED when a defensive end came all the way around the pocket and blindsided Brady from behind, fumbling the ball in the process. It’s just such a double-edged thing this time of year – players of all shapes, sizes and ages NEED THE REPS right now, but at the same time the injury risk is always right there.
Finally, as many of you probably know there is a scrimmage and autograph session on Saturday. It’s possible we may have someone there to catch it, but, if you are lucky enough to get out there tomorrow, please feel free to send a recap of what you saw and we’ll make sure to get it up on this here blog. Or even just comment on this post, and we’ll be sure to check it out.
All for now. As always, GO COUGS!
