Time for an update on links before I end the workday.
Whenever I look for fresh news on The Big Ten Network, I’ll constantly find new links. Today is no exception. Over at the Centre Daily Times in Central Pennsylvania, Robert K. Johnson says there’s no need for a channel devoted to the conference (be careful, the site may have been infested by spyware). Brian Vanotchen of the Grand Rapids Press reports on the network’s launch. Evan Weiner is watching the whole thing play out from New York. In the Sun, he writes about the Big Ten and Big Cable fighting this in the media and everywhere else.
Over in Cincinnati, ESPN Radio will enter that market in a big way.
John Eggerton’s blog entry in Broadcasting & Cable focuses on ESPN hyping the first game of David Beckham.
Reviews are out for ESPN’s mini-series “The Bronx is Burning” that premieres Monday. This review calls the program, “cheesy”. Ouch. Joanne Ostrow of the Denver Post basically gives it three out of four stars. Sam Schechner of the Wall Street Journal says even though the mini-series is on ESPN, the program is partly about sports. In the Albany (NY) Times-Union, Mark McGuire (no, not that one) says the show is solid.
In the Rochester (MN) Post-Bulletin, Paul Christian writes Barry Bonds talk will get plenty of play in the All-Star Game on Fox. Chris Zelkovich in the Toronto Star, is tired of Barry.
Broadcasting & Cable unveils ESPN’s plans for All-Star Weekend. Unfortunately, that includes Chris Berman (He hit that one to San Jose!!!!) calling the Home Run Derby, Monday night.
The Sacramento Busines Journal reports that Comcast has officially taken over FSN Bay Area and will most likely rebrand the channel in the near future. Also included in the deal was the purchase of FSN New England and that channel will also be renamed in the next few months.
Rob Brodie in the Winnepeg Sun reports on CBC’s plans for Soccer Day in Canada.
That’s it. Primetime and Weekend Viewing Picks will come up later. Enjoy your weekend.
I’ll have to admit I’ll miss watching BBC Two’s coverage of Wimbledon online next week.
