By now, you probably know Tyreke Evans, Stephen Curry and Jeff Green are joining the roster pool for Team USA. This now makes Tyreke one of 31 players eligible to represent his country in the most prestigious international basketball competitions over the next decade or more, assuming he doesn’t get much worse as a basketball player.
Here are the Team USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski and Team USA managing director Jerry Colangelo talking about the 2010 NBA Rookie of the Year:
First of all, to have someone like Coach K say that Tyreke Evans has already earned this honor at the age of 20 is a HUGE compliment. HUGE.
Secondly, I believe Jerry Colangelo when he talks about how this experience will make Tyreke a better player. Since the inception of this new direction of the Team USA concept and program, the guys that seem to go into these camps and play with all of the top players in an intimate environment like this have learned how to become much better players. Along with their normal rate of progress, you can see players like Deron Williams, Chris Paul, and even LeBron James and how they improved greatly after this experience.
It’s unlikely that Evans can actually make Team USA this summer for the 2010 World Championships in Turkey. However, the experience of the Team USA camps will teach him how to be a better pro, a better leader and a better player. With the hard work that he’s clearly willing to do, this can only accelerate the growth process of only the fourth 20-5-5 rookie in NBA history.
Here is the roster breakdown for the 31 players currently in the roster pool:
Guards: Chauncey Billups, Kobe Bryant, Tyreke Evans, Stephen Curry, Eric Gordon, OJ Mayo, Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, Dwyane Wade, Russell Westbrook, Deron Williams
