From Sunday’s FSN Brewers’ broadcast

I caught a few minutes of the FSN broadcast of the Brewers game against the Mariners in Peoria today (while flipping back and forth between the Badgers route of the Illini to add the Big 10 tournament champion title to go along with their regular season title), and caught some of Bill Schroeder’s updates to the 2008 Brewers:
1. Mike Cameron is slated to bat 2nd after completing his 25-game suspension. Prior to this, I thought that Ned Yost would stick with J.J. Hardy (or even Corey Hart) as his #2 hitter.
2. Ned Yost would like to keep Cameron’s replacement in the field in the #2 spot in the order during the first 25 games, so as not to disrupt the rest of the batting order when Cameron returns. While Hart is likely to play CF during the first 25 games, he’s likely to move to RF upon Cameron’s return, so Yost will want to keep Hart in the same spot in the order both before and after Cameron is eligible to play. Gabe Gross, then, is probable to bat #2 for the Crew during their first 25 games (and could be a cheap addition to fantasy teams in need of runs). The projected batting order is now:
1. Rickie Weeks, 2B
2. Mike Cameron, CF
3. Prince Fielder, 1B
4. Ryan Braun, LF
5. Corey Hart, RF
6. J.J. Hardy, SS
7. Bill Hall, 3B
8. pitcher
9. Jason Kendall, C
Of course, if Hardy continues to get hot and Hart does not, their two spots could easily be switched.
3. Yost is leaning towards having just 12 pitchers on the roster at the start of the season. Sheets, Suppan, Gagne, Turnbow, Mota, Shouse, Riske and Torres are the rock solid locks, barring trade or injury. Right now, Claudio Vargas is the clear front runner for the third spot in the rotation, and Carlos Villanueva is closing in on locking up the fourth spot. That would leave just two spots, then, for Dave Bush, Chris Capuano, Manny Parra, Seth McClung, and Yovani Gallardo, when he is ready to return. Capuano, as a second lefty out of the pen, and Gallardo seem to be the ones that will be on the roster at the end of April, so Parra and McClung will likely make their way to Nashville at the end of camp, while Bush will probably join them once Gallardo is activated.
