From the New Guy

Hey there kids, Josh here, coming to you from the other side of the country… kinda. I head up a fledgling blog over here in Georgia, Sox in Atlanta. Matt’s been kind enough to ask me to write over here every so often, so I figured tonight’s game was as good a topic as any. But enough introduction.

I want to begin this entry with one word, an obvious one, but a word deserving of its own line entirely:

Pedro

I am unbelievably excited for this game. I am excited to see Pedro on the mound again, ready for another big night (come on, he had a great night in Game 2, even though they lost). I’m excited to see Chase Utley smack fifteen more homers against Pettite. I’m especially excited to see A-Rod completely suck it up and have to run home to the solace of his centaurs. Of course, some of these are hypothetical… but tonight’s going to be exciting all the same. Pedro’s been rifling off his signature gems, and hearkening back to his days in Boston, and I think he’s got what it takes to get the W tonight. But not all is right here in my little corner of Atlanta. For this World Series to end perfectly, Pedro would get the win in Game 7, smack-dab in the middle of the Yankers’ new home, preferably making Damon whiff on a strike-three cutter that sends the entire stadium to its knees. Guess I’ll have to settle for Cliffy Lee or a non-egg-laying Hamels. Meh. And I’ve got to restrain my excitement tonight, as it is Wednesday, the designated night for drinks and socializing. Can’t be yelling at the television, questioning Girardi’s mafia connections and Teixeira’s dentist (among other things). No room for making a fool of myself tonight.

But tonight will be good! I have faith, I have confidence, and I have a hat I may bring back from offseason retirement. Because while we, the Nation, are on a golfing break for the next few months, as Dan Shaughnessy said about Pedro (and relish this, because this is the first and last time I will ever quote Dan Shaughnessy), “All these years later, he’s still pitching for the Red Sox.”
