It was another winning week for Florida State as the Seminoles went 3-1 by beating Alabama State before taking two of three from Virginia Tech. FSU had a nice week at the plate, scoring 36 runs over the four games, but the most outstanding Seminole was the guy who usually finds himself behind it.

Catcher Danny De La Calle is the Florida State Baseball Player of the Week for the week of March 23rd through the 29th after hitting .545 over four games.

Over the four games, De La Calle went 6-for-11 with a double, a triple, and a home run. The FSU senior catcher also tallied three RBIs during the week and touched home three times.

After hitting his fourth home run of the year in Friday’s 8-3 loss to Virginia Tech, De La Calle had three hits on Saturday and a pair of RBIs. In the two games where De La Calle didn’t get the start behind the plate, he had hits off the bench including a key triple in Wednesday’s 8-7 win over Alabama State.

For the season, De La Calle is hitting .304 which ranks third on the team. De La Calle also ranks third on the squad in doubles and home runs and is one of three Seminoles to triple this season. FSU will need another big week from its catcher this week as the Seminoles take on rival Florida on Tuesday before traveling to Raleigh for three games against N.C. State.
