Florida State split four games against ranked opponents this week as the Seminoles took two of three from Virginia after falling in Gainesville to rival Florida. The Seminoles sit at 19-6 for the season and 7-2 in ACC play and that’s partially thanks to the long ball.

While D.J. Stewart blasted three home runs over the weekend series with Virginia, another Seminole had a big week at the plate including a very timely home run on Saturday. The Florida State Baseball Player of the Week for the week of March 16th through the 22nd is third baseman Dylan Busby.

Though he struggled in the field, Busby hit in each of FSU’s four games this week, going 5-for-10 with four runs scored, seven RBIs and a pair of big home runs. In addition to the five hits, Busby safely reached base six times by drawing five walks and getting hit by a pitch.

The highlight of Busby’s big week came late in Saturday’s 12-10 victory over Virginia. With the Seminoles trailing 10-9 in the top of the 9th and a runner on, Busby hammered a pitch from Josh Sborz over the left field wall to ultimately put FSU ahead for good.

On Sunday, Busby took the first pitch he saw deep to give Florida State an early 4-0 lead in an eventual 13-1 victory over the Cavaliers.

Just a freshman, Busby has made a major impact for the Seminoles this season. He’s played in 24 of Florida State’s 25 games and ranks second on the team with a .310 batting average. Busby has 4 home runs and 24 RBIs, which ranks behind only Stewart and John Sansone, who are tied for the team-lead with 25.
