The Florida State baseball team continues to be red hot. The Seminoles are 13-3, have won nine straight and are to off to a 3-0 start in ACC play. Over the weekend, FSU swept Boston College and the series got off on the right foot thanks to a stellar outing from the ace of the Florida State staff.
Redshirt junior pitcher Mike Compton is the Florida State Baseball Player of the Week for the week of March 2nd through the 8th for his start on Friday in a 7-0 FSU victory.
It took Compton 113 pitches to toss a 2-hit complete game shutout on Friday night. Compton struck out seven in the contest while walking just one. His only adversity of the night came in the third inning when Boston College collected its only two hits.
Compton was able to get out of the inning by getting Joe Cronin to ground out with two runners on.
The veteran of the rotation, Compton has thrived in his new role as the team’s ace with a 1-0 record and an outstanding 1.19 ERA this season. In 22 2/3 innings this season, Compton has struck out 24 batters while walking only six.
Compton and the Seminoles will look to stay hot this week as they continue a 14-game homestand with two games against UCF and three against Wake Forest.
