It was winless week for Florida State, but yet another efficient one for junior Montay Brandon, who leads FSU in both scoring and rebounding this season. Brandon is the Florida State Basketball Player of the Week for the fourth time this season for his performances against Pittsburgh and N.C. State.
Brandon earns the honors for the week of January 12th through the 18th after shooting 9-for-13 from the field while averaging 16 points and 6.5 rebounds over two games. Brandon is averaging 13.7 points and 5.7 rebounds-per-game this season while shooting 57 percent from the field. He’s on pace to easily surpass his previous career-high in each of those three categories.
After scoring 12 points on 3-for-6 shooting in Wednesday’s 73-64 loss at Pittsburgh, Brandon was wildly efficient in Saturday’s 72-63 defeat at home against N.C. State.
Brandon attempted just seven shots, making six, including his third 3-pointer of the season. Brandon finished the game with 20 points and 9 rebounds — both team-highs — as the Seminoles nearly rallied from 17 points down.
With last season’s leading scorer Aaron Thomas no longer a part of the team, Brandon’s play this season has prevented a tough season from being far worse. Brandon, a 6’7″ slasher, has scored in double-figures in 12 of Florida State’s 18 games this season and has hit the 20-point mark on three occasions.
