It’s been a rough start for Florida State during the 2014-15 season as the Seminoles sit just 1-3, but one of the more pleasant surprises has been junior slasher Montay Brandon. Although FSU has been in action for a little over a week, Brandon earns the first Florida State Basketball Player of the Week honors for his performance in the first four games of the year.

After averaging under eight points and shooting less than 42 percent from the field last season, Brandon has been perhaps the most efficient Seminole. Brandon is scoring 11.8 points-per-game, which ranks second on the team only to Aaron Thomas, and is shooting a stellar 67 percent. In Florida State’s first two games of the year, Brandon was a combined 12-for-12 from the field.

In addition to be efficient offensively, Brandon has been the Seminoles’ best rebounder. Averaging seven per game, Brandon leads the team. Despite his worst game of the year offensively in Sunday’s loss to UMASS, Brandon still grabbed nine rebounds.

Brandon has also been much improved from the foul line. After shooting 61 percent last season, that number is up to 73 percent early on this year. Brandon has scored in double-figures in three of Florida State’s first four games.
