Florida State was able to pick up its first ACC win on Tuesday, but fell on the road to Syracuse on Sunday night. The Seminoles sit at just 9-7 for the season and 1-2 in ACC play as they get ready to visit Pittsburgh on Wednesday night.
The top performer for Florida State for a second week in a row was freshman guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes. Rathan-Mayes is the Florida State Basketball Player of the Week for the week of January 5th through the 11th after averaging 18 points-per-game this week.
In addition to averaging 18 points, Rathan-Mayes shot 50 percent from the floor, going 14-for-28 over the two games. Rathan-Mayes averaged three rebounds, 2.5 assists and a steal as well.
After leading the team with 22 points in Tuesday’s 86-75 win over the Hokies, Rathan-Mayes paced the Seminoles with 14 points and 2 steals in Sunday’s 70-57 defeat at Syracuse.
For the season, Rathan-Mayes ranks second on the team, averaging 12.5 points-per-game, but leads the squad in assists with 4.5 per contest. Rathan-Mayes sits behind only Montay Brandon as the team’s top scorer, but has led the Seminoles in scoring six times which is more than any other player this season.
