Florida State went just 1-1 this week to close its non-conference schedule as the Seminoles followed up an emotional win over rival Florida with a disappointing road loss to Mississippi State. One of the Seminoles, who shined this week was freshman guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes.
Rathan-Mayes earns Florida State Basketball Player of the Week honors for the week of December 29th through January 4th for his performances against the Gators and Bulldogs. In two games this week, Rathan-Mayes averaged 12.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and a pair of steals.
Over the two-game stretch, Rathan-Mayes shot just 8-for-21 from the field, but did just about everything for Florida State. In Tuesday’s 65-63 win over Florida, he scored 13 points and tied a team-high with 3 assists and 2 steals.
In a 62-55 loss to Mississippi State on Friday, Rathan-Mayes scored 12 points, but led the team with 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
On the year, Rathan-Mayes leads the team with 4.8 assists-per-game. He ranks second on the team in scoring with 11.7 points-per-game and in minutes played with 32 per contest.
Rathan-Mayes and the Seminoles will look for their first ACC win on Tuesday night as they host Virginia Tech.
