Freshman guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes scored 12 points and dished out a career-high 11 assists on Saturday as Florida State completed the season sweep of Virginia Tech with a 73-65 victory in Blacksburg.

The Seminoles again held the rebounding advantage of the Hokies and six different Florida State players made 3-pointers. Virginia Tech led just twice and never in the second half as Florida State (13-11, 5-6 ACC) picked up just its second road victory of the season.

Virginia Tech (9-14, 1-9 ACC) cut what was a 31-26 halftime lead for the Seminoles down to one early on in the second half, but Florida State used a 14-5 run in which five different players scored to take a 10-point lead.

From there, the Florida State lead would bloom to as many as 17 and the Hokies would never get any closer than six the rest of the way.

After being held to just 6 points against Clemson on Wednesday, Montay Brandon led Florida State with 16 points on 6-for-9 shooting and a game-high 6 rebounds in the victory. Devon Bookert was a perfect 3-for-3 from downtown and finished with 10 points for the game. FSU shot 54 percent from the field for the game.

Virginia Tech’s leading scorer, Justin Bibbs, was held to just 3 points and without a field goal in Saturday’s loss. Adam Smith and Ahmed Hill each scored 19 points and combined for seven of the team’s eight 3-point makes to lead the Hokies. The 19 points for Hill is a new career-high.

Both teams will have short turnarounds as each take the court at home on Monday night. Virginia Tech will host Georgia Tech, who earned its second ACC win on Saturday. The Seminoles will host No. 4 Duke.
