FSU Football Player of the Week: Dalvin Cook

Everett Golson was nothing short of outstanding in his Florida State debut on Saturday night, but the FSU player that set the tone in Saturday’s 59-16 victory over Texas State was sophomore running back Dalvin Cook.

Cook is the Florida State Football Player of the Week for Week 1 after rushing for 156 yards on 19 carries and a pair of touchdowns. Cook scored on runs of 1 and 28 yards in the first quarter to help the Seminoles get out to an early 14-0 lead.

Cook’s strong start was particularly satisfying for the sophomore from Miami after being suspended from the team in July. Cook was accused of punching a woman outside of a Tallahassee bar in late June, but was found not guilty of misdemeanor battery and reinstated last month.

Last season, Cook emerged late to become the first FSU freshman to ever rush for 1,000 yards in a season. Cook also added a catch for 13 yards in the victory over the Bobcats on Saturday. He’ll look for another big performance as the Seminoles host South Florida this Saturday.
