FSU Football Player of the Week: Jameis Winston

Florida State’s Rose Bowl performance was downright disappointing as the Seminoles saw their 29-game winning streak dashed in a 59-20 loss to Oregon. Though it wasn’t easy to find one, the top performer for Florida State may have been playing his final game in garnet and gold.

Quarterback Jameis Winston is this week’s Florida State Football Player of the Week. Though he had two of Florida State’s five second half turnovers, Winston kept the Seminoles in it until midway through the third quarter.

Winston completed 29 of his 45 pass attempts for 348 yards and a touchdown pass. He was intercepted once and had a fourth down fumble returned for a touchdown.

Florida State was plagued early on by missed opportunities, scoring just six points on its first three trips inside the Oregon 15-yard-line. In the second half, FSU committed five turnovers leading to 34 points for the Ducks — the most points off turnovers for a team in one half in eight seasons.

Winston finishes the year for Florida State with over 3,900 yards passing, 25 touchdown passes and 18 interceptions. Last season’s Heisman winner complete over 65 percent of his throws this season and averaged better than 8 yards-per-pass-attempt.
