FSU Football Player of the Week: Josh Sweat

-2

It was a tough one to watch for Florida State fans on Saturday night as Georgia Tech’s Lance Austin returned a blocked field goal 78 yards for a ,touchdown as time expired to give the Yellow Jackets a 22-16 win, which snapped FSU’s 28-game ACC winning streak. Despite the loss, a number of young Seminoles played well and perhaps none better than freshman defensive end Josh Sweat.

Sweat is the Florida State Football Player of the Week for Week 8 after finishing with six total tackles, including four solo stops on Saturday night.

Sweat not only was tied for second on the team in tackles, but he recorded FSU’s only sack of the night — the first of his career. Sweat also set up the Seminoles’ first scoring opportunity after batting a pass from Georgia Tech quarterback Justin Thomas into the air and grabbing his first career interception.

As a 5-star recruit out of high school in Virginia, Sweat arrived in Tallahassee with high expectations, but after suffering a knee injury last season, some questioned how much of a contributor he could be for the Seminoles this season. Through seven games, Sweat now has 21 total tackles, a sack, an interception and two fumble recoveries.
