TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com)– This time, it took Dalvin Cook a little while to warm up.
But once he did, it was the same script as usual – another big day for Florida State’s star running back and another win for the Seminoles.
Cook scored two third-quarter touchdowns and the Seminoles parlayed two Louisville turnovers into another two scores in a 41-21 victory here at Doak Campbell Stadium.
FSU is 6-0 for the third consecutive season and is bowl eligible for a 34th straight year; the longest streak in the nation.
The Cardinals’ defense – as well as a still-ailing hamstring – kept Cook under wraps in the first and second quarters. He went into the break with just 28 yards on seven carries and briefly left the game after a 26-yard reception.
Cook, though, looked like himself in the third quarter, running through the heart of the Louisville defense for a 54-yard touchdown that gave the Seminoles a 13-7 lead.
He added a 14- yard TD later in the third quarter and finished with 163 yards on 22 carries (7.4 ypc).
It’s the fourth 100-yard game of the season for Cook and the ninth of the sophomore’s career. Through six games, Cook has 955 rushing yards. Florida State’s single-season rushing record is 1,242.
The Seminoles trailed 7-6 at halftime but outscored Louisville (2-4, 0-2 ACC) 34-14 in the second half.
Two turnovers – a forced fumble by freshman safety Derwin James and an interception from senior safety Javien Elliott – led to two touchdowns.
FSU quarterback Everett Golson, meanwhile, continued to trend upward, throwing for Seminole career-high 372 yards and three touchdowns on 26 of 38 passing. Golson has increased his passing yardage total for four straight weeks and has yet to throw an interception on 177 attempts this season.
