As most expected, eighth-seeded Florida State emerged from the Tallahassee Regional to advance to the Super Regionals with a 2-1 victory over South Florida on Sunday. While the trip to the Super Regional was expected, it did not come easy.

Behind three hits from Tiffani Brown and five shutout innings from pitcher Lacey Waldrop, the Seminoles had little trouble downing Fordham on Friday night, 6-1. After blanking South Carolina, South Florida however, brought a whole new challenge.

On Saturday, the Lady ‘Noles and Bulls were scoreless for 10 innings before Alex Kossoff’s two-run single finally put FSU ahead. Kossoff accounted for three of Florida State’s five hits while Waldrop pitched around nine hits allowed in 11 shutout innings in a 2-0 Florida State victory.

Facing South Florida again on Sunday, Florida State faced its only deficit of the Tallahassee Regional as Ashli Goff scored a first inning run to give USF a 1-0 lead. That lead for the Lady Bulls was short-lived as the Seminoles plated a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning. Brown and Maddie O’Brien each touched home to give FSU a 2-1 lead.

Neither Waldrop nor South Florida’s Sara Nevins allowed a run over the final six innings as FSU advanced to a second straight Super Regional. Waldrop picked up all three wins in the regional to improve to 36-4 on the year. Waldrop gave up just a single run in 23 innings of work during the regional.

In the Tallahassee Super Regional, the Lady ‘Noles will take on either Arizona State or Michigan. The match-up will be a best-of-three series.
