FSU Spring and Summer Sports Update (April 30th)

LBs

Florida State’s baseball team is currently ranked in the top 10 nationally with a 33-13 record following a series victory over rival Miami, but the baseball diamond isn’t the only place the Seminoles are succeeding athletically. With the season winding down, FSU also holds a top 10 national ranking in three other sports. Here’s a look at where Florida State stands in every other sport currently in progress:

Men’s Golf

National Ranking: No. 1 (GCAA), No. 2 (Golfweek/Sargarin)
Summary: Led by Hank Lebioda, Jack Maguire and Rowin Caron, the Seminoles have won six of their 11 tournaments and have finished outside the top 3 just once. FSU recently finished third in the ACC Tournament.
Upcoming: NCAA Regional play will begin May 14th.

Women’s Golf

National Ranking: No. 28 (Golfweek/Sargargin)
Summary: Florida State recently finished third in the ACC Tournament and will compete in the NCAA Tournament for a 10th straight year.
Upcoming: Florida State will be one of 18 teams competing in the San Antonio Regional which begins next Thursday.

Softball

National Ranking: No. 9 (USA Today/NFCA Coaches), No. 10 (ESPN/USA Softball)
Summary: Led by star pitcher Lacey Waldrop and potential All-American Jessica Warren, the Seminoles clinched the ACC regular season title with a sweep of Georgia Tech over the weekend. FSU is 41-12 overall for the season.
Upcoming: The Seminoles will close the regular season against North Florida on Sunday before the ACC Tournament begins next Thursday.

Men’s Tennis

National Ranking: No. 33 (ITA)
Summary: Led by junior Benjamin Lock, the Seminoles are 19-10 on the year. After beating N.C. State, they were eliminated by eventual ACC champ Virginia in the conference tournament, 4-1.
Upcoming: FSU opens the NCAA Tournament next Friday against Troy.

Women’s Tennis

National Ranking: No. 73 (ITA)
Summary: The season is over for Florida State’s women’s team despite a valiant effort in the ACC Tournament. After wins over Pittsburgh and Notre Dame, the Seminoles pulled off a big 4-3 upset over rival Miami, but fell to Georgia Tech in heartbreaking fashion in the ACC semifinals, 4-3. FSU finishes the season with a record of 16-11.

Track and Field

National Ranking: Men No. 20 (USTFCCCA), Women No. 18 (USTFCCCA)
Summary: Florida State’s men’s track and field team fell from eighth to 20th in the latest poll released Monday. The FSU women dropped five spots from No. 18 to 13th.
Upcoming: The Seminoles will compete in the Payton Jordan Invitational in Palo Alto, California on Friday.

Women’s Sand Volleyball

National Ranking: No. 5 (AVCA)
Summary: Florida State finished the regular season 13-4, losing only to schools currently ranked in the top 6.
Upcoming: FSU takes on Florida International in the national quarterfinals on Friday. The Golden Panthers beat the Seminoles 3-2 when the teams met back in early March.
