No. 2 Florida State Makes 11th Straight NCAA Quarterfinal Appearance

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Earning its ninth-consecutive shutout in NCAA Tournament play, No. 2 Florida State (17-2-4) took down No. 19 Auburn (16-6-1) by a score of 2-0 on Sunday afternoon to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2015 NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship. It marks the 11th straight season that the Seminoles will play in the NCAA quarterfinals, the longest active streak in the country.

The nine straight postseason shutouts sets an NCAA record, breaking North Carolina’s stretch of eight clean sheets in 2003-04. That Tar Heel team still holds the record for consecutive scoreless minutes with 829:21, while FSU has not allowed a goal in 810:00, dating back to an overtime goal against UCLA in the 2013 National Championship Game.

The Noles secured goals from Kaycie Tillman in the 25th minute and an Auburn own goal at 27:44 to earn the victory. The win extended FSU’s home unbeaten streak to 23 games.
The Noles nearly got on the board in the 10th minute when Isabella Schmid slipped a ball through to Natalia Kuikka at the top of the box. The freshman from Finland ripped a shot to the left that beat the Auburn keeper, but ricocheted off the post and was cleared away by the Tiger defense.
