Florida State improved to 2-0 at the Tallahassee Regional with another victory in its final at-bat. The Seminoles now sit one win away from a trip to the Super Regionals following a 3-2 win over College of Charleston on Saturday.
After Josh Delph delivered a walk-off single on Friday night to lead FSU past Mercer, first baseman Quincy Nieporte played the hero on Saturday. Nieporte blasted a solo home run over the left field wall with one out in the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie and put the Seminoles (43-19) ahead for good.
FSU got another outstanding start from pitcher and ACC Tournament MVP Boomer Biegalski, who extended his scoreless innings streak to 18 before running into trouble in the top half of the inning.
Biegalski retired the first two hitters in the inning before a Alex Pastorius double and a 2-run home run by Carl Wise evened the game for College of Charleston.
Florida State’s first two runs came in the fifth inning on RBI singles by Delph and D.J. Stewart.
Dylan Silva picked up the victory for FSU by retiring just one batter in the eighth in relief of Biegalski. Billy Strode, who got the win for the Seminoles on Friday night, picked up the save Saturday by pitching a perfect ninth.
Brandon Glazer went the distance for the Cougars (44-14), allowing three runs in eight innings, but took the loss.
To stay alive, College of Charleston will need to defeat Auburn in an elimination game Sunday afternoon. Auburn stayed alive with a 1-0 win over Mercer earlier Saturday. The winner will face FSU on Sunday evening. The Cougars defeated Auburn 7-6 in 11 innings to open the Tallahassee Regional on Friday.
