The St. Louis Blues appear to be growing in popularity in a big, big way. Aside from ratings records over on Fox Sports Midwest, the Blues are a hit when it comes to merchandise. Gear is flying off of the virtual shelves and there’s some pretty impressive stats to back it up.
Thanks to our friends over at Fanatics, we now know just how popular the Blues have been since the playoffs started.
Here’s the info they recently shared:
- St. Louis Blues are the top-selling NHL team for the week of April 25th and sales are up 100% since the start of the playoffs, compared to the same dates in 2015.
- St. Louis is the 3rd highest-selling NHL market since the playoffs began, behind only Chicago and NYC.
- Vladimir Tarasenko is the 4th highest-selling NHL player since the start of the playoffs.
- A vintage shirt has been the best seller over on Fanatics.
Those are some pretty impressive figures. St. Louis is often criticized as being a small market which is why the fact that they are third when it comes to gear – only trailing the massive markets of CHI and NYC – is so encouraging.
The Game 7 win over Chicago should only help move more merchandise off the shelves. The Blues have had a ton of fans in St. Louis even during the disappointing years, but winning breeds popularity on a national level. Look no further than the Blackhawks and their huge surge in fans and popularity after they won multiple Cups. The departure of the Rams for LA should help too as fans looking for a new sporting outlet go out and purchase team gear.
It’ll be interesting to see if these trends hold true. Tarasenko is quickly becoming a top player in the NHL as a whole and the Blues’ fan base should only grow as long as they keep winning.
