Futures at Fenway
August 11th was undoubtedly marked on the calendar for every player from the Sea Dogs and Spinners since they found out they would be playing with the team. It marked the 2nd of what is going to be an annual minor league doubleheader played by Sox-affiliated teams. The Spinners and Sea Dogs each had the chance to play a full 9-inning game in front of a big crowd in one of the most famous stadiums in the country. And both games yielded similar results.
The first game was played between Lowell and the Hudson Valley Renegades. Both teams are in the New York-Penn League which primarily features players just drafted out of college. Jose Capellan, the best starter so far for the Spinners (59 IP, 56/7 K/BB, 46 hits allowed, 3.05 ERA) pitched for the Spinners. Capellan featured impressive off-speed pitches. His changeup and curveball froze several Renegades
