Jim Joyce is back in action this afternoon in Detroit, calling balls and strikes behind the plate for the Tigers and Indians game. Before the game, Armando Galarraga submitted the lineup card to Joyce. The two shook hands, and Joyce, who was caught up in the moment, was brought to tears. According to Jim Leyland, MLB gave Joyce the option for a day off today, after last nights infamous blown call, but the umpire opted to stick to his schedule.
Although I doubt I’ll ever completely be over what we all witnessed last night, it’s hard to stay mad at Joyce, as he’s handled the situation like a man. He fessed up to his error, apologized and is looking to move on. Armando and Leyland also displayed an extreme amount of class regarding the call, and both seem to be moving on as well. I can only hope this brings the team together, and motivates, rather than infuriates them.
