Rookie phenom Yovani Gallardo pitched 8 scoreless innings Monday night in Houston, bringing his scoreless streak to 21 innings pitched. Gallardo earned the win, to bring his record on the year to 9-3, 3.74. Gallardo has earned wins in his last four starts…two apiece over Pittsburgh and Houston.
Corey Hart went 2-for-4, and drove in 2, bringing is BA up to .297 on the year.
The Brewers 6-0 win did not result in any gained ground, however, as the Cubs came from behind in the 9th to beat the Reds. The Cardinals’ loss to the Phillies, however, puts the Redbirds 8 back (7 in the loss column), and brings their elimination number down to 5 (combination of Cubs’ wins and/or Cardinals’ losses).
Ben Sheets (12-5, 3.78) goes Tuesday night on just three days rest. Sheets’ draws Felipe Paulino (0-0, 11.25).
