Yovani Gallardo is likely to miss the first few weeks of the 2008 season, due to surgery this week to repair a lateral meniscus (cartilage) tear in the knee, according to Tom Haudricourt’s blog on jsonline.com.
This is horrible news for a team that sees the Cubs and Mets in the first two weeks of the season; the only possible silver lining is that it will give another former starting pitcher one more shot at starting, and everyone knows about this in advance. Carlos Villanueva is a virtual lock for the rotation now, too.
